Police have arrested six people and are searching for two others following the aggravated robbery that occurred last week in Kamuli.
The incident occurred on 15th/ March/ 2022, at 2000/c when Opio Ali 30, a mobile money businessman was shot and robbed of 16 million shillings plus other items in front of his residence.
He was rushed to Jinja hospital where he later died.
Now, ASP Kasadha Micheal the PRO, Busoga North says they have 6 suspects in custody. These are identified as Kubula Alex, Moses Katajja alias Obama a native doctor and resident of Bukapere, Kamuli Municipality, Kataira Janat, wife to Katajja, Mategge Joseph, Mukisa William, and Mwebya Joel.
However, police are still hunting for Dan alias Richard Magulo, a driver from Busia and Mufumbiro alias Masappe who are believed to be prime suspects in the crime.
“The two were sighted at the scene of crime but fled during the operation in which the six were arrested. On top of the gun Reg. No. 12087436 SRA with 6 rounds of ammunition, and a panga, we have recovered the bag that the assailants allegedly grabbed from the victim,” Kasadha says.
Preliminary investigations further indicate that the recovered gun was robbed on 17/2/2022 from No. 710 Matege John, a guard attached to Blue Light guards Uganda Limited, while he was on duty at Send the cow offices in Kamuli municipality.
Kasadha urged members of the public to cooperate with the police and avail them with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects on the run.
