Detective James T Barasa has told court that the call data report of the suspects standing trial for the kidnap and murder of former social worker, Maria Nagirinya and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa, shows that they were all involved in the crime.
Nagirinya and Kitayimbwa were kidnapped on August 28th, 2019, and killed. Their bodies were dumped in Mukono along Kayunga road.
Several suspects were picked up by the Police, including Komporiyamu Kasolo, Raymond Marcos Okori, Isaac Ssenabulya alias Kisunsu, Hamza Kateregga alias Arsenal, John Kisekka alias Manumanu, John Lubega aka Barros, Hasan Kisekka, and Ivan Mutagubya in connection to the murder. On Monday, detective Barasa presented a call data report of the suspects.
He explained that the purpose of the call date was to determine the location of the suspects, analyze their mobile money transactions, and match it with the other evidence related to the crime.
Barasa informed the court that after the murder, Kitayimbwa's sim card was inserted into another phone on August 31st, 2019 at 07:32 hours.
It was removed from the phone on September 1st, 2019 at 4:36 hours. Police recovered the sim card from Johnson Lubega after withdrawing Shillings 24000 from it. The report also revealed that Comporiyamu Kasolo's phone number, 0700415952, was registered in the name of Katongole Waswa. The same names were used to register another sim card number, 0706991311, which was recovered from Kasolo upon his arrest.
On September 1st, 2019, Kasolo's sim card number 0700425952 was inserted into an Intel handset with three ports. The call data report showed that Kasolo was based in Natete and Busega areas, and after the crime on August 29th, 2019, he returned to the same place at 02:28 hours and received a call from Sharif Mpange, who was at Bweyogerere at that time.
The detective also informed the court that he discovered that phone number 0788662014 belonging to Johnson Lubega and registered in the name of Emanuel Mbiya, was used to communicate with Kasolo. The report also revealed that between August 30th to September 1st, 2019, Ronald Kitayimbwa's sim card was inserted into Lubega's sim port, where the number 0753565028 used by Nasif Kalyango was also being used.
The analysis shows that all the suspects were in direct voice communication with the key suspect, Kasolo, before, during, and after the crime. The prosecution, led by Jonathan Muwaganya and Timothy Amerit, asked the court presided over by Justice Muwata to admit the data report as an exhibit.
However, the key suspect Compuriyamu Kasolo, who is self-representing in the case stated that he did not understand the report or the court orders used by the detective to track the phone numbers.
He asked for time to study some documents, but Justice Muwata objected to the request, stating that he had the whole evening to study the reports if he wanted to. The court was adjourned to Tuesday, April 4th, for further hearing.
