VJ Junior, also known as Matovu Joy Smart, has expressed his strong objection to people comparing musicians Gravity Omutujju and Navio, deeming it an insulting joke.
The two artists scheduled their concerts on the same date, with Gravity set to perform at Lugogo Cricket Oval on August 2nd, while Navio will be celebrating his 20-year music career at the Kampala Arena in Nsambya.
VJ Junior's comments were prompted by UBC TV presenter Calvin, who referred to the simultaneous concerts as a "battle of Hip-Hop heavyweights" on social media.
This tweet didn't sit well with VJ Junior. He acknowledged Gravity's talent as a musician but argued that he can't be classified as a Hip-Hop artist.
According to VJ Junior, the idea of Gravity being labeled as a Hip-Hop musician should stop as his style leans more towards 'Kidandali', a subgenre of dancehall.
Expressing his disappointment, VJ Junior addressed Calvin, highlighting the inaccuracy of categorizing Gravity as a Hip-Hop artist. He felt offended that someone who has been in the industry for a considerable time, couldn't distinguish between Hip-Hop and Kidandali. VJ Junior emphasized that while Gravity was undoubtedly a talented artist, his sound and genre were far from Hip-Hop.
Gravity initially gained prominence as a Lugaflow rapper and has had notable conflicts with other Hip-Hop artists such as GNL Zamba and Navio.
