You could be a talented and probably an aspiring rapper, but every time every time you drop your song ... it doesn’t get match attention and you have not yet made it to the top radio playlists every other time you have a new song.
Behold you don’t have to worry no more because below is how you can be as good as your rap Idol.
Brain Storm
Before you write a rap song it’s very important that you brain storm your topics or ideas on what you plan to rap about. The easiest way to come up with a topic from my experience of being around Hip-Hop since I was seven is to write from experience not fantasy, tell a story in a rap song , you can also write a rap song basing on current affairs because people want something they can relate to. For instance if somebody writes a rap song about ‘Kony’ and the agony he’s caused to the nation, The hustle in the ghetto or better still about the struggle you went through growing up, your experience in jail if at all you got locked up at some point in your life, you name it. When you put that to practice your song will be loved for good.
Come Up With A mental beat or flow
Once you have a topic to write, before you pen down those lyrics … find a rhythm or flow you can follow when writing --- work becomes a bit lighter since you now have sort of a pattern to follow. The flow can however, change depending on your level as a rapper. Sometimes you may choose a fast flow yet you can’t hold your breath for a long time, so it’s of value that you adjust to what suits your pace.
Writing the Hook / intro
Every rap must have an intro. The hook should be catchy and on point as well . There two ways you can do the hook to your song
- You can rap the hook; it must have a straight up message, the kind that can just stick to listeners head because when your song is playing for the first time on radio … it’s the hook that a fan is most likely to remember the next time it plays a gain.
- You can also kill a hook by singing or better have it done by a singer who knows his way around the game.
Writing the Verses /Outro
When writing a verse to you song make sure – it has 16 -32 bars. A good rap song should have at most 3 verses with the first two being long composed of the same number of bars, the 3rd verse can be a bit short because by the time you’re in the last verse the ‘outro’ to your song comes immediately after that. The ‘outro’ can be reaping the hook till it fades or some talk.
After wring a couple of songs, one must decide what kind of rapper he wants to be; is it a lyricist, conscious rapper or inspirational. Once you know what you want to be everything will just fall in place.
The song can also have only two verses that are long enough –it’s not usually healthy to have short verses that leave the listeners hanging. Just imagine being cut off by power halfway into a block buster movie! It sucks right?! Yeah it sucks!
For the record never write a verse without meaning … it must contain rhymes that range from abbreviations to words that sound the same , above all stay on topic basing on your title for the song.
