Mathew Bukenya, the long serving Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is finally bowing out. Announcements of his March retirement came hours after the release of the Primary Leaving Examinations. Daniel Nokrach Odongo will serve as the new Executive Secretary of the examinations body.
At an extraordinary meeting held on Friday 8th January, 2016 the Board appointed Odongo as Executive Secretary of UNEB.”
Odongo is the current Deputy Secretary in Charge of Secondary School Examinations at UNEB. He has held this position from 2004 to date. “Prior to that,” the statement added, Odongo, “acted in the same position from 1996 to 2004. He has risen through the ranks, having joined UNEB at the level of Assistant Secretary in 1990.”
It should be noted: Bukenya became UNEB Executive Secretary in 1997. His contract as UNEB Executive Secretary expired in 2013. The board embarked on a process to replace him but it was halted after a whistle blower wrote to the Inspector General of Government, accusing the then board chairperson, Fagil Mandy of usurping the powers of the committee and ring fencing various positions.
