Winnie Byanyima, the wife to jailed opposition leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye has revealed that her husband has been allowed to cook his own meals during his stay at Luzira maximum prison.
This however did not come as a surprise to many Ugandans as the FDC Iron man has in the past lamented about plans by enemies to take his life.
According to Uganda prisons mouth piece Frank Baine, Besigye asked to cook his own meals after reporting a health condition that does not allow him to eat the usual posho and beans consumed by the rest of the prisoners.
But, Baine was quick to add that an arrangement has been made to have Besigye’s family bring him raw food which he will then cook with other in mates, since the prisons cannot manage such an expense.
Byanyima however told the media this morning that they fear for Dr. Besigye’s life since the police and Judiciary have connived with the state to suck life out of him. According to Winnie, they cannot trust the state that is importing all kinds of weaponry including poison.
She believes her husband is in danger and cooking own meals, from raw food she takes him is the only way to keep him out of harm’s way. She was however impressed that the prisons authorities did not deny Besigye’s request.
“We take every precaution that we can and I have to say here that I was encouraged by the prisons officials who seem to be acting more professionally that the police and the judiciary,” Byanyima said.
She added; “They allowed him, prisoners and the three of them can cook their food together and eat together. So we are bringing raw food and he is able to cook with them and eat their own food.”
