Parliament will this afternoon sit for the presentation of the National Budget 2016/17 at the International Conference Center, Serena.

The budget is expected to amount to Shs26 trillion (up from Sh21 trillion in the last financial year).

Key highlights in the budget include the rise in taxes on fuel, sugar and cigarettes as well as an almost doubled Agriculture budget.

Meanwhile, taxes on agricultural equipment will be removed in the next financial year. Teachers’ salaries which have been a song every financial year will also rise.

A Women's Enterprise Youth Livelihoods Funds of Sh50 billion, each to be formulated.

The major nominal sector allocations are as follows include Sh6.4 trillion on interest payments, Sh3.8 trillion on Works & Transport, Sh2.75 trillion on Education, Sh2.4 trillion on Energy & Minerals, Sh1.85 trillion on Health, Sh1.59 trillion on Security, Sh1.25 trillion on Accountability, Sh1.2 trillion on Public sector management, Sh1.12 trillion on Justice/Law & Order, Sh0.8 trillion on  Agriculture.
