19 police officers were injured in an accident that occurred this morning at the Wampewo roundabout in Kampala when a Fuso truck loaded with alcohol crates knocked a coaster, which in turn also knocked a police truck carrying officers of the VIPPU to their respective workplaces.
Emilian Kayima, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson told us that the accident happened this morning at around 6:30am.
According to Kayima, 19 police officers were injured and rushed to kibuli hospital. He however explains that only 6 officers were critically injured and doctors are working on making sure that they all survive.
“Cause of accident is not yet known but the error was with the fuso truck driver. The coaster had right of way but the fuso was speeding” Kayima said.
He added “good our vehicles from fire brigade and rescue services removed the trucks and people did not rush to drink the beer as expected. Our officers did a good job blocking people from accessing the beer.”
He called on all drivers to be vigilant on the road and follow traffic rules saying most drivers have forgotten about the Highway Code.
