Uganda today joins the rest of the world to mark the International Anti-corruption day 2016.

The day is marked annually on 9th December. This year’s theme in Uganda is “Reject and report corruption: your responsibility.”  While the global theme is: “united against corruption for development, peace and security.”

Anti-corruption agencies in Uganda have stepped up efforts to fight corruption that continues to change in form.

The National event to commemorate the day is taking place at Hotel Africana.

Agencies indicate that corruption is mostly detected by procurement audits undertaken by PPDA and external audits by the Office of the attorney general.

On average annually, the inspector general of government files approximately 100 cases to the anti-corruption court.

But while the anti-corruption agencies have tried to put in place a number of interventions and strategies to combat corruption, the scourge still remains a big threat to effective service delivery.

They are now calling for collective responsibility by all stakeholders in the country to successfully combat corruption.
