President Yoweri Museveni has promised to build showrooms for furniture makers at Nsambya, Kubiri and Kireka to improve on their earnings.

Gen. Museveni told crowds that converged at Masindi Golf and sports club grounds to celebrate the 31st NRA/NRM liberation day anniversary, that furniture makers at the mentioned areas are doing a very good job as manufacturers but have no proper means to sell their produce.

He therefore promises to build those workshops and showrooms, if the ministry of lands will avail him enough land to construct the facilities.

“The other day I was asking for some land from the minister of lands, I hope she will get me that land because I want to build a showroom for the people of Nsambya. These people at Nsambya can make any time of furniture you want, but it is all on the roadside and even one who wants to buy, when you find it on the roads you say these are local people” Museveni said.

He added that; “The chairs are so good, if we were to put them in a showroom, you would see, the sales would go up and what I am planning for the people of Nsambya, must be done for the people of Kubiri and Kireka. All these people are manufacturers but they must be assisted with common user machines and workshop centers.”

The president was also vocal against Ugandans who move abroad to buy commodities that are made in Uganda too. He was equally surprised at how women fly abroad just to buy hair pieces, explaining that the Uganda Shilling's value goes down because we buy lots of dollars due to importing.

“Our money's value goes down because we buy lots of dollars due to importing. STOP travelling abroad. "What do you do when you travel abroad?" Museveni wondered.
