The Uganda Police has cleared the air on the fake curfew warnings making rounds on social media, assuring the public that there has been no notice issued of a curfew in Kampala or its environs.
Since Friday, a message reading;
“There's going to be curfew in Kampala starting tonight. Tell abantu bo to Please carry all necessary valid documentations for identification.
Documents include National id, driving permit or passport.

From a reliable source”
However, in a statement issued by office of the police spokesperson indicates that the message is being spread by people wishing to cause discomfort and unrest. The statement clearly indicates that the message is false and divisionary.
“Uganda police Force and related security agencies will continue to be vigilant in providing security and maintaining law and order in Uganda. We call upon members of the general public to exercise sensible judgment at all times, including the use of social media platforms” part of the statement read.
The message started making rounds after the assassination of former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi near his home in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb.
Kaweesi who was laid to rest yesterday, was gunned down alongside his body guard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Wambewo.
A number of suspects have since been arrested by the police with the help of FBI and other local security agencies.
