The United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has recognised the Ugandan subsidiary for excellence in innovation during the UBA CEO awards held in Lagos Nigeria earlier this month.

UBA Uganda was awarded the CEO Award for innovation execution which was in recognition of the bank’s tax payment solution that will enable Ugandan taxpayers to make payments through Point of Sale machines and online using UBA VISA debit and credit cards.

With this service, the Uganda Revenue Authority is expected to boost their revenue collection as this offers more ease and convenience for taxpayers who before were hampered by the stringencies of payment processes.

This solution was lauded by the URA Commissioner General Doris Akol as the first of it’s kind in East Africa.

UBA Uganda Managing Director/CEO Mr. Johnson Agoreyo received the award on behalf of the bank and promised that UBA Uganda would continue to advance innovative solutions for their customers to meet with the ever changing trends and consumption habits of their consumers.

“We recognise that in this fast paced world, innovation is the only way that will set us apart from the competition. As a bank, we, therefore, put in a lot in understanding the needs of our customers through constant interaction with them so that we develop solutions that will serve them efficiently and conveniently.” He said.

The UBA CEO awards are an annual event established in 2008 to celebrate outstanding performance in the Pan African Bank showcasing excellence, significant innovation and service in key areas of the Group’s business. Over 10 Awards were given on the night with the CEO of UBA Ghana, Mrs Abiola Bawuah awarded the special award category of “Business Leader who defied all odds and opened up new opportunities for the Bank”.

Over 10 Awards were given. Of each award category, the UBA Group Managing Director, Kennedy Uzoka said “We recognise and appreciate that there are so many staff members who have demonstrated aspects of each of our core values, but we have had to single out the very best. We celebrate our Lions and Lionesses who used their ingenuity and creativity, as well as their industry experience and passion, to work tirelessly to deliver excellent service to our customers and to continue to achieve exceptional results within the Group’.

The theme for the night was “the Journey of UBA” and was attended by key industry players, diplomats, ministers and key influencers in Nigeria, as well as the CEOs and Board Chairmen of the 19 African countries in which UBA operates, democratizing banking for over 14 million customers.
