At least 430 pilgrims have set off from Kabale diocese for this year's 3rd June Martyr's Day celebrations at Namugongo shrine.
The Pilgrims were flagged off by Rev. Fr. David Byaruhanga, the Lay Apostolate Movement Coordinator in Kabale Diocese from Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality on Sunday.
The pilgrims, compromising of women, men, boys and girls, will trek for 430kilometers to Namugongo. The oldest pilgrim is 79-year-old Philip Bazimenyera from Bunagana Parish in Kisoro District.
The other pilgrims are drawn from Kinanira Parish, Soko, Rubuguri, Ruhengeri in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Hundreds of excited family members, relatives and friends thronged Rushoroza Cathedral to flag off their loved as they set off for Namungongo.
Pilgrims from Kabale always trek to Namugongo since 2009 when the 65 Pioneer Pilgrims successfully made it
on foot. Peter Kabagambe, the leader of the pilgrims told URN that all the pilgrims were in good health and prepared for the long walk to Namugongo.
He explained that the pilgrims will pay for peace, Faith, Love and development once they arrive in Namungongo. "We are doing Free and willing Personal Individual-penance, Fasting and Praying Asking God Through the Uganda Martyrs to bless and Sanctify Uganda and the Citizens now and forever'' said Kabagambe.
