Office of the speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga is has a busy and tough week ahead as she reviews hundreds of petitions filed by Ugandans against the move to amend the constitution.

The speaker has also received motions from members of Parliament who are against the move to scrap Article 102 (b) from the constitution.

After Thursday’s dramatic scenes in the house, three legislators rushed to the speaker’s office with different motions by Friday. The three are all against Igara West MP, Raphael Magyezi’s Age limit Bill.

On Friday afternoon, MPs John Baptist Nambetsye of Manjiya County and his Kasambya Counterpart, Gaffa Mbwatekamwa presented notices of motion before the speaker's office.

The duo, both under the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party, want leave of parliament to introduce private member's bills seeking to amend the Constitution.

Part of Nambetsye's notice reads; "I intend to move a motion, for leave of parliament to introduce a private Member's bill amending the Constitution to require Members of Parliament, once appointed to a ministerial position, to relinquish their parliamentary seats. This is to request for space on the order paper to move the same.

On the other hand, in his notice, Hon. Mbwate wants leave of parliament to introduce a bill scrapping all academic restrictions in the Constitution for all elective offices.

The Speaker's office also received a motion notice from Worker's MP Sam Lyomoki seeking leave of parliament to present the Museveni Succession, Transition and Immunity bill.

This brings to five, the number of motions on the proposed constitutional amendments before the speaker. Earlier on, Patrick Nsamba Oshabe, the

Kassanda County MP also filed a notice to present a motion for the creation of a Constitutional Review Commission.

The Speaker had earlier on also received the much anticipated notice by MP Raphael Magyezi to president a motion seeking to pave way for the amendment of Article 102 (b) of the constitution, which caps the presidential age at 75.

Kadaga is expected to provide guidance on the matter and the fresh notices filed the different legislators tomorrow Tuesday.
