Aruu county Member of Parliament Samuel Odonga Otto has threatened to drag to court the state minister for Finance (Investment and Privatization) over what he termed as false, malicious and extremely defamatory statements she made against him.
On Thursday, during the dramatic sitting that ended prematurely, Otto moved a motion to suspend Anite from parliament, which was turned down by the deputy speaker Jacob Oulanya.
After the sitting however, Anite was recorded on camera alleging that the Aruu legislator was drunk, and that Ugandans should not take him seriously. She also alleged, that on several occasions, Otto has been sighted at State House to ask President Museveni for moey, for lifting age limit, which money was denied, leaving him a bitter man.
Now, through his own firm Odonga Otto and Co. Advocates, the vocal MP wants Anite to apologize for the defamatory statements.
“The statements you made are bias, full of lies and baseless. Our client theerefore demands; an apology in the same forum you used while uttering those statements and a copy of the written apology be sent to us for prior approval before it is aired and broadcast. That you refrain from making any future statements against our client, and the sum of 300,000,000 in damages for the pain, torment and anguish our client is undergoing because of your unguided and reckless statements” part of the notice reads.
Anite has seven days from receipt of notice to comply to Otto’s demands or face the wrath of legal proceedings.
