Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, President Yoweri Museveni has called a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) today Friday.
Rogers Mulindwa, the NRM's Communications Officer confirmed the meeting in a Press Statement issued on Thursday, but declined to divulge details on the agenda saying this will be tabled and discussed in the meeting.
The meeting will be attended by members of the Central Executive Committee, NRM District Chairpersons, NRM Municipal Mayors/ flag bearers, NRM EALA MPs, members of NRM Historical Leaders Forum, members of all special organs and chairpersons of the NRM branches in the diaspora.
NEC is the first organ of the NRM which deals with policy matters in the party. It's meeting this Friday comes a few days after another organ; the Central Executive Committee (CEC) backed the contentious private member's bill seeking to remove the presidential age cap from the Constitution.
Once endorsed by parliament, the bill will allow incumbent president Yoweri Museveni to seek reelection when his term of office ends in 2021. He is now aged 73, and would not be eligible for another term of office.
