The fight for Jinja East parliamentary seat which should have been between Paul Mwiru and Nathan Igeme Nabeta ended as a win for FDC leadership, compared to NRM.
This is after Paul Mwiru was declared winner of the just concluded by election.
Early this week, President Yoweri Museveni went to campaign for the NRM candidate Nabeta, while the FDC brigade of Muntu, Besigye and Amuriat together with Kyadondo East MP, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu campaigned for Mwiru who emerged the victor.
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate polled 6,654 votes, beating seven other candidates including Nathan Igeme Nabeta of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Rogers Sserunjogi, the Jinja district returning officer declared the final results indicating that, Nabeta, whose election victory in 2016 was successfully challenged in Court by Mwiru, polled 5,043 votes. Other candidates included Faisal Mayemba Masaba who got 117 votes, Paul Mugaya with 48 votes, Richard Henry Nyanzi with 47 votes, Francis Wakabi with 24 votes, Monica Abuze with 18 votes and Hatimu Isabirye Mugendi who got seven votes.
While at least 28,000 voters were expected to vote from 47 polling stations in the constituency, only 11,958 actually cast their ballots with 145 votes being declared invalid and 31 getting spoilt.
The turn up may have been affected by a heavy downpour that started early in the morning and went on throughout the day.
