Legislators have threatened not to pass the 2018/19 budget should government ignore funding for nodding disease.

The issue came up during today's plenary chaired by deputy speaker Rt. hon. Jacob Oulanya. Oulanya explained that whoever does not believe that the issue needs agent attention, is crazy.

"This matter of Nodding Disease speaks for itself very  eloquently. Anybody who makes it look small should have their brains  checked. Children, parents and communities are there; they are  represented in this Parliament" Oulanya said.

Ssembabule woman legislator Hon. Anifa Kawooya said they won't approve the budget until this issue has been resolved

"We are not helping our people in the North. We are helping ourselves. Now as we normally do, unless we provide this money for Nodding Disease, we are not going to approve the budget or any other money" she threatened.

The discussion came up after Hon. David Bahati the state minister for Finance said they had received a request for shs1.3 billion for the Nodding Disease from ministry of health.
The leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza has been on a fact finding mission about the same in Northern Uganda. Hon. Kiiza says she was saddened by the rape cases among nodding disease victims  yet little legal action is taken.

Recently,  the health ministry said hundreds of Millions of Shillings were misused by district officials in Lamwo & Kitgum.

Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali will present a statement about the matter tomorrow afternoon, as the executive is yet to make a way forward on for care of victims.
