Uganda police force will have to find another area to fix a torture chamber after the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola ordered for closure of Nalufenya.

Nalufenya police station in Jinja district has been acting as the main police torture chamber, at whose hands several opposition leaders have suffered.

In a letter dated April 27th from the police head offices in Kampala, addressed to all Units directors, Nalufenya is to immediately resume operations as a police station.

The directors of human resource, logistics and engineering have been directed to ensure that the facility functions as a police station with immediate effect.

The development follows public outcry and an outburst from opposition MPs who suffered at Nalufenya during the age limit debate. Several MPs including Ssemujju Nganda, Allan Ssewanyana, among several others were carried out of Parliament to the facility.

Also, civilians, including Red pepper bosses were tortured at the facility by a section if special police forces who were managing it late last year. The closure of Nalufenya comes with relief especially to opposition leaders Kiiza Besigye and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago among others.
