The Police Ibanda has in custody one man accused of chopping off the ears of a suspected chicken thief.
It is reported that Yeremiah Turyagyenda, a resident of Kitontoma Central, Bishehe Division in Ibanda Municipality is in trouble for chopping off the ears of Alex Mutabazi, a resident of Rukungiri district.
It is alleged that Mutabazi chopped off Turyagyenda's ears when he reportedly found him stealing his chicken. He had reportedly stuffed three hens in a sisal bag by the time he was apprehended.
According to eye witnesses, in addition to cutting off the suspect's ears, a mob assaulted him and inserted a nail in his neck. Mutabazi is currently admitted at Ruhooko health center IV in Ibanda Municipality.
Rodgers Chebene, the Ibanda District Police Commander, says the suspect is in critical condition.
The Ibanda Resident District Commissioner Eliasto Akatuheebwa, condemned this mob action, saying residents should have apprehended the suspect and handed him to authorities.
