The management of Uganda Cancer Institute has announced that the Cobalt 60 Radiotherapy machine which had repeatedly broken down has been fully serviced and is now fully functional.
The media a few weeks back reported that the "new" machine had broken down, but the health ministry would later clarify that it needed routine servicing.
The servicing was done over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday by a designated technician from Czech Republic, Mr. Bednar Andrej, who was helped by local technician.
Dr. Jackson Orem, the Executive Director Uganda cancer institute says the fully functioning of the machine resumed today Monday.
"It should also be noted that the servicing of the machine has not interrupted the treatment service since it has been done over the weekend" Dr. Orem said.
The machine i a scheduled to have another servicing in October this year. Dr. Orem asked the public to seek the service as well as other cancer treatment services and to always seek for the right information regarding the UCI services. He also warned media houses from publishing wrong information.
"We take this opportunity to advise media houses to always crosscheck their information regarding this sensitive service given the potential to contribute to further hurt and damage our patients" he warned.
