The ministry of health is screening people entering Uganda from Congo as the country tries to arrest an Ebola threat. However, the minister of Health says there is no confirmed Ebola case in the country.
Speaking at Munyonyo this afternoon, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said they have started screening in Kasese where the country registers several people crossing for market days.
The ministry has also started screening in Ntoroko, Bunyangabu, and Bundibugyo being done by health workers and police. “We cannot handle the border posts without the police. They are part of our national task force to support us in this move to prevent Ebola from coming into the country.
Minister Aceng added that surveillance is also ongoing in the 22 districts along the borders to prevent people coming into the country from Congo with Ebola. Isolation tents have been set up in Kasese, while others will be set up in Ntoroko and Bundibugyo.
“These isolation tents are on standby in the event of any eventuality that may occur. We have health workers in these areas that are being trained on case management in preparation for readiness. But we are also ready to setup mobile laboratories in these areas in the event that we present a case” the minister added.
She clarified that the two suspected cases from Kasese and Kabale tested negative and that there is no need for panic in the country. She adds that alert cases are still coming in.
