Business has come to a standstill in Kampala after fans of Kyadondo East MP, Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert alias Bobi Wine took to streets this morning protesting his continued holding by military.
Bobi Wine who is currently held at Makindye Military barracks was arrested last week after he allegedly commanded a group of supporters of Kassiano Wadri the Arua Municipality MP elect, to pelt stones at the president’s convoy.
Bobi Wine’s group also disrupted a rally of the FDC camp that was being addressed by former party president Dr. Kiiza Besigye. A scuffle ensued on Monday evening last week, leading to the death of one person identified as Yasin Kawuma, Bobi Wine’s driver.
The MP has since been custody on charges of illegal possession of a fire arm, after police insisted they found two SMG guns in his room at hotel Pacif in arua. This has however been disputed by his family especially his wife who insists her husband has no gun.
Now, reports have been going around social media indicating that the Kyadondo MP was allegedly tortured by the army and that his kidney got a problem. This triggered his fans to go on streets this morning protesting his continued arrest.
At Kisekka market, Nakivubo and Kamwokya among other areas police fired teargas and live bullets to disperse crowds that were starting to form. The situation remains tense with military officers heavily deployed downtown.
