Mityana Municipality MP Hon. Francis Zaake has pleaded with the parliamentary committee of equal opportunities to speed up interventions for his travel for treatment outside the country.
The MP was tortured and cabbaged by security forces in Arua a few weeks ago when campaigns for the Municipality Parliamentary seat went the wrong way.
Supporters of Kassiano Wadri the winner of MP seat allegedly attacked and stoned the presidential convoy, leading to the arrest and alleged torture of opposition MPs who had gone to campaign for him.
Zaake was however the most injured legislator and was rushed to Rubaga hospital where he has been recovering. It remains unclear who exactly brought Zaake to Kampala as the President claims he escaped from police custody, while his people allege that he was dumped there by security operatives.
Now, Zaake has requested MPs on the committee who visited him at the hospital on Monday to convince the speaker whom he wrote to last week, to authorize his travel for better medical attention. In his letter to Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, the Mityana MP argued that he risks permanent paralysis if he does not seek better treatment abroad, immediately.
Hon. Zaake got injuries on his back, spinal code and neck. He however has not received authorization from doctors at Uganda Meical Board to leave the country. The doctors are yet to visit him and ascertain whether he needs further treatment.
MPs after the visit said their fellow legislator has a right to better treatment even if he has a case to answer. His wife Bidget Namirembe said they had been waiting for the said doctors to visit the legislator but in vain.
This is the second time Hon. Zaake will be leaving the country for treatment after the late 2017 fracas in parliament where security raided the house and beat up MPs. Zaake was badly injured and had to be rushed abroad for treatment along with hon. Betty Nambooze.
