At least 5 criminals are in police custody at Nansana police station on allegations of stealing, dismantling and selling vehicles to scrap dealers.
The suspects have been identified as Joseph Magoba, Willy Kizza, Gregory Luyinda, Henry Matovu and Mustafa Kayondoaall residents of the same area. They were arrested from a rented parkng yard located at the premises of Daliya Dembe.
Area spies informed police about the suspicious activities that were taking place in the neighborhood, prompting a team led by SP Benard Katwalo to swing into action and conduct a rain on the premises.
According to a statement from police, four of the suspects were arrested for dismantling a Toyota Noah car Reg.No. UAR 157N. Meanwhile, another car, a premio UAK 982B was found in the same premises already dismantled. The premio had been reported missing on Wednesday August 29th 2018 by its owner Joshua Lubega.
According to Lubega, the car was stolen from his home at 2am of that same night. Police also recovered a number of car accessories including but not least; brand new tyres, Mark II windscreens engrave with Reg.No. UAF 325K and radio systems.
Officers also discovered an isolated burning ground where non profitable car parts were wasted to ashes to avoid any possible evidence.
The suspects told police during questioning, that a vehicle weighing between 1,000 to 1,500kg is usually dismantled in less than four hours and sold at an amount between UGX 2 to 3 million. They also told officers that cars were dismantled to avoid being tracked, detected and arrested by police.
They face charges of stealing motor vehicles and aggravated robbery.
