For any operator to receive a National Operator license from the Uganda Communication Commission, stringent conditions have been set to ensure that Telecoms cover the entire country.
This was communicated by Hon. Frank Tumwebaze the minister for ICT and National Guidance, during a press briefing to communicate Cabinet decisions at Media center this morning.
Tumwebaze says the condition will ensure nationwide coverage of network connection as opposed to the current connections that concentrate mainly in urban centers.
Cabinet sitting at State House Entebbe on Monday approved the National Broadband Policy for Uganda to avert duplication and wastage of resources in the provision of broadband among the key stakeholders in the ICT sector
“The following will now form part of the licensing conditions for Telecoms "National coverage. Every operator that seeks a national operator license must be able to cover the entire geographical place of Uganda" the Kamwenge MP said.
The new rules will also optimize usage and increase efficiency of broadband infrastructure utilization in the country.
