Defiant Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is in the country and has been transported to his home in Magere by officers of the Uganda police force.
The IGP Okoth Martin Ochola clarified that he was not arrested, but rather police was escorting him home.
Kyagulanyi landed at Entebbe International Airport at exactly 12:58pm aboard Kenya Airways. He has been in the Unote States for specialize treatment after alleged torture in military custody after his arrest during the final campaign rallies in Arua on August 13th.
Immediately after stepping off the plane, Bobi Wine was intercepted and whisked away by the police who put him in a waiting police vehicle that is currently led him home.
The vehicle escorted by police lead cars then set off from Entebbe Airport at exactly 1:13pm and headed to his home in Magere Kasangati, Wakiso District.
Meanwhile, journalists under their umbrella body Uganda Journalists association have threatened to drag security agencies into courts of law if their colleagues who were arrested at Entebbe airport this morning are not released immediately.
The journalists had been deployed by their respective media houses to cover the return of Kyadondo East legislator Hon. Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi.
These include: Charles Katabalwa of Radio Saptentia, Siraje Kiberu of Kingdom TV, Eve Muganga of Daily Monitor, Diana Kibuuka of CBS Emanduso, julius Luwemba New Vision, Nkata prime radio, Ssematimba Bwegiire of Radio Simba, Lubulwa Henry URN among others.
Kabuye Ronald Secretary for Information UJA released a statement this afternoon condemning the arrests saying the act does not only violate their rights as individuals but also the constitution of Uganda which provides for right to access to information.
UJA now demands for immediate and unconditional release of all journalists arrested and detained while going about their lawful duty to inform the public and that the confiscated gadgets should be given back them and allowed to proceed with their work.
“Failure to adhere to our demand we are going to drag the security organs to courts of law for the continued violation of the journalists rights” Kabuye wrote.
The association also urged the Uganda Communications Commission to refrain from calling media managers issuing verbal directives stopping them from doing live broadcast of Bobi Wine return or mention of his name in various programs.
“We also demand that such directives should be formally done if indeed they are "lawful" and do not stop the public from enjoying their right of access to information. We continue condemn such beastly acts against journalists” the statement reads.
