A ballistic report on the murder by shooting in a taxi in Mityana district more than a month ago where one person was killed and five other injured has come out pinning two police officers for the reckless act.

Sam Ssekiziyivu, a passenger was shot dead while five others including Derrick Ssengoba, Jalia Nakamya, Doreen Asiimwe, Lawrence Jingo and Reagan Muwonge sustained serious injuries.

The duo, names with held by police were arrested on Monday September 24th, 2018 after an order came through from the Director Criminal Investigations, Grace Akullo. Suspects are locked up at Mityana Police Station.

According to the force, the arrests bring to four the number of suspects wanted in connection to the shooting after other suspects Corporal Kefa Moshi and Police Constable Morris Cheptai run into hiding when the Inspector General of Police IGP, Martins Okoth Ochola  ordered their arrest immediately after the shooting.

According to the ballistic report, four different guns were used to shoot at taxi registration number UBA 869C after it defied a police directive to stop at Wabigalo Trading centre. Police officers chased the taxi before opening gunfire into the vehicle at Kigenge village.

The taxi was shot at on Sunday August 19th 2018 during demonstrations by Mityana Municipality residents against who were protesting the torture of their Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake who was bed ridden at Mulago Hospital. 

Expert analysed bullets found in the victim’s body, compared them with the guns that were recovered from all police officers involved in the operations on that day and later used the Armory records to determine who was using which gun. Emilian Kayima, Police Spokesperson confirmed the arrest and the search of the two other officers.

'It is true we have two officers in our custody but their names we are still holding onto them. These two are different from the ones who escaped. We are still looking for those ones," Kayima said.
