The police in Arua police have in custody a woman for attempting to steal a new born baby from the hospital. Police picked Zainab Nafus from Arua hospital as she tried to sneak out with the baby.
According to Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, Zainab had spent one and half weeks supposedly attending to Zahara Driciru after giving birth to a premature in Yumbe.
The deceased was later transferred to Arua hospital for better management. Unfortunately, Driciru who was diagnosed with Tuberculosis passed on Tuesday. But Angucia explains that Zainab who was keeping close to Zahara before her death immediately took away the baby from the care section as deceased's relatives took her body to Yumbe for burial.
When they returned from burial, Driciru’s relatives couldn't trace the suspect and the child leading to a search. Nurses located the suspect and alerted police leading to her arrest.
Currently, the child is with the deceased's relative while the suspect ia being held at Arua Central Police Station. Patients and their attendants have since been cautioned to be vigilant with children and the properties at the hospital, which attracts people beyond West Nile with all sorts of characters.
