Police closes down two betting companies for operating without licences

Uganda police force has closed offices of Home Bet and Game Bet Spot betting companies for allegedly operating without operational licence contrary to the Lotteries and Gaming Act 2016. 

Deputy Police spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango told the press this afternoon that other provisions of the same Act that are relevant to enforcement are sections 26 and 67.

According to Onyango, section 26 of the Casino, Gaming and betting licence, states that; “A Person shall not establish or operate a casino or machine without a license issued under this act.”

While section 67 indicates offences relating to Casino, Gaming and Betting. These include: operates a Casino, provides facilities for playing of gaming, makes a gaming and betting machines available, provides other facilities for gaming and betting, provides facilities for betting, whether by making or accepting by acting as a betting intermediary or by providing other facilities for making or accepting bets without a licence, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to 48 currency points or imprisonment not exceeding two years. 

Now, regional police commanders and district police commanders have been tasked to locate these betting and gaming companies in their areas to make sure that they are closed and their directors face the appropriate laws.
