Drama ensued at Kasaka Catholic Parish youth day in Kirumba County in Kyotera district on Sunday evening when angry member of the public nearly lynched Andrew Mugonza, the Democratic Party-DP youth wing national deputy organizing secretary for grabbing a microphone from Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune the Micro-finance State Minister.
An angry mob descended on Mugonza, assaulted and undressed him at an event where the Minister was chief guest.
Drama started when Mugoza, dressed in people power attire (a red overall and beret) sprang from his seat and attempted to grab a microphone from the minister so as to cut short his speech. However, the minister's bodyguard wrestled off Mugonza before an angry mob pounced on him.
But, angry youths over powered the minister's security detail comprising two soldiers before thumping Mugonza severely, prompting one of the guards to open fire in the air to disperse the mob that had held Mugonza on the ground for over 10 minutes.
However, Mugonza’s friend Denis Tumuhairwe, accuses the Minister's escorts of thumping the youth leader forcing him to remove the "People Power" outfit.
He alleges that the soldiers grabbed Mugonza by the collar before removing his shoes and assaulting him with their gun-butts leaving him unconscious. According to Tumuheirwe, the victim was only saved by boda boda riders who rushed him to hospital with bruises and blood oozing from his mouth and nose.
Andrew Mugonza would later speak to the media this morning and explain that he is nursing serious wounds and deep pain in the chest and limbs inflicted on him by the soldiers.
The young man further vows to open a case of assault against Minister Kasolo who doubles as the Kyotera County Member of Parliament for failing to reign in over his escorts as they assaulted him
