Colonerio Ndyareeba, a resident of Nyakabingo B Village in Nyakajeme Sub County in Rukungiri is battling for his life at Nyakibaale Hospital following a failed attempt to slice his neck with a machete after hacking a neighbor to death.
The Rukungiri District Police Commander Moses Nanoka tells us that the man attempted to end his life after hacking Dafuroza Nuwamanya, a prominent businesswoman in Nyakahanga B Trading Centre to death and also injured one of her customers identified as Francis Muhereza.
Ndyareeba allegedly stormed Nuwamanya's shop with a machete on Sunday afternoon and hacked her to death before turning to Muhereza. The suspect accused Nuwamanya of gossiping about his lover whom they broke up with recently over a misunderstanding.
Shortly after committing the crimes, Ndyareeba locked himself up in a nearby house as he attempted to flee from angry residents who wanted to send him six feet under.
While in hiding, the suspect attempted to slice his neck but was reschued by police.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says police have opened investigations at Rukungiri police station under CRB 125/2019.
