120 people are currently in custody at the infamous Nalufenya police station after they were arrested in an operation carried out by Police in Jinja to rid the area of youths behind several cases of theft in the district.

The suspects are allegedly mainly involved in housebreaking, drug abuse, motorcycle theft and snatching bags from women at night.

The Jinja CPS commander, Vincent Irama says this operation was carried out from 12:00 a.m and ended on Thursday at 7:00 am in the areas of Mafubira, Kaziminji, Kirinya and Bugembe town council.

However, some of the suspects who were paraded before the press in the afternoon dismissed the accusations claiming that they were randomly picked up from their workplaces.

One of the suspects who identified himself as Faizo Kibwika, a vendor in Kyabazinga market argues that he was arrested at 8:00 am and only got to discover the charges against him while at police.

However, Irama denied these allegations explaining that most of the suspects had case files with police and were being investigated.
Adding that the operation to arrest the suspects followed public outcry from residents over theft of their household items, and drug abuse within their communities.
