Africell in conjunction with Uganda Marathon a charity organization based in masaka conducted a blood donation drive in Masaka and Mbarara districts respectively. In Mbarara the blood donation activities took place over the weekend on the 25th and 26th of April at Amazon plaza and Rwebikona market respectively.
In Masaka the donation activities were carried out on the 8th April with a record of 184 units of blood collected.
In Mbarara the blood donation drive was carried out with the participation of brands like Coca cola, So Sure and Rwenzori. According to the Africell PRO Mr. Edgar Karamagi, ‘The main cause of maternal mortality is hemorrhage which is aggravated by lack of access to blood to administer to the mothers in their critical time of need. This blood drive was themed donate blood, save a mother as a rescue mission for mothers who need this blood as a matter of life and death. We are extremely happy about the turn-up of the donors in this drive and we pledge to continue boosting our communities with more activities like these in the future.’
By the end of the exercise in Mbarara the team had managed to collect over 200 units of blood. The Uganda blood transfusion services was represented by the Mbarara head of operations Mr. Noel Sabiiti. Noel expressed gratitude to Africell and Uganda Marathon who through their logistical support enabled them collect more than the 60 units of blood they would normally collect.He continued to call upon the people to make donating blood a reular habit or lifestyle.
