Uganda police force should not mishandle opposition political players especially during peaceful protests, the Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga has advised.

The Katikkiro was speaking during the lukiiko at Bulange Mengo when he advised police to stop using unnecessary force while arresting people they do not agree with in politics. He says such force never worked well for any country.

“Too much anger, unnecessary force cannot stabilize a country, this never helped any country before” he said.

Katikkiro Mayiga added that government and opposition leaders need to dialogue if these run ins are to be resolved. He also advised that if the current government does not want to leave power, the opposition should find a civil manner in which to deal with this.

Meanwhile, the Buganda Kingdom premier showed concern over the murders of several Ugandans which police has failed to resolve. He said many people no longer sleep due to fear for their own safety.

The Katikkiro says police needs to come out with a report about Ugandans who have been murdered, their killers and what is being done to ensure justice is served. Otherwise, he adds, the country is in a state of panic.

Toda’s lukiiko was the first since Kabaka Muweda Mutebi II of Buganda reshuffled his cabinet.
