The ruling National Resistance Movement, NRM has achieved 62 percent implementation of the 2016 Manifesto commitments including the revival of the national carrier, the Uganda Airlines.

This Sunday 12th May 2019 will mark three years since HE President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement started a five year mandate of leading the country following the 18th February 2016 General elections.

Addressing the press at the beginning of the inauguration of the NRM Manifesto deliberation week at media centre in Kampala this morning, the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Ruganda said as government, they are convinced that with the momentum they have generated, NRM is set to achieve most of the targets in the Manifesto.

To ensure smooth implementation of the Manifesto, Government initiated a number of reforms with regard to policies, laws and regulations. Among these are:

The amendment of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) Law, free connection to the national grid, improved planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting and continuous implementation of affirmative programmes in selected regions to promote inclusive growth and development.

Hon. Rugunda said maintaining peace and security have remained the core ingredients upon which the various social economic activities are hinged.

“At the regional level, we continue to work with neighbours, IGAD, African Union, the UN and other partners to support efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and security” he added.

He mentioned some specific milestones NRM has so far accomplished in the last three years including; completion and commissioning of Isimba Dam which has added 183 MW of electricity on the grid, adding that generation of reliable energy is critical to attracting investments and driving industrialization.

He then bragged about the revival of the national carrier, the Uganda Airlines. “We promised the country that we will revive Uganda Airlines during this term of office. I am pleased to report, as you already know, that two of the four aircrafts were received in the country only two weeks ago. We expect the airline to begin operations in the next 2 months. This will open Uganda to many opportunities, boost tourism, raise our flag and brand country”

“We have completed and commissioned the Neo-natal and Specialized Women hospital at Mulago. This is a sign of NRM’s continued commitment to improvement of the health children, daughters and mothers. The rehabilitation of Mulago National Referral Hospital is nearing completion” he added.

On industrialization, the Prime Minister drew attention to the fact that the President has over the past months been launching and opening several factories that produce goods ranging from food products to agricultural inputs and other essentials. Besides producing goods and services, he added that these industries employ many Ugandans, utilise local raw materials and pay taxes into our national treasury.

“The Entebbe-Kampala Expressway is complete and was commissioned by the President last year. This is easing traffic flow from Entebbe International Airport to Kampala city and the surroundings. The Nile Bridge has been completed and commissioned” he also said.

On energy, The PM said Karuma Dam will be completed by close of the year and this will add additional 600 MW to the national grid. “All our District headquarters are now connected to power save for a few districts which will be connected soon. In addition, money has been mobilized to embark on connecting all our sub counties by close of 2020.”

Work on expansion and modernization of Entebbe International Airport to accommodate the volume of increasing traffic is also progressing well.
