The ruling National Resistance Movement, NRM candidate in the Nebbi LCV By-election stunned his opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC Party candidate by sweeping the election with a very high margin.
Urombi Emmanuel won the election with 22,280 votes, followed by Independent candidate Othuba George with 18,323 votes while Onyai Vick Emmanuel the FDC party candidate came last with a paltry 4,022 votes.
Michael Arinaitwe the returning officer Nebbi electoral district announced Urombi the winner at 4:05am this morning. 44,625 valid votes were cast, 1,911 ballot papers were rejected, 46,536 ballots were counted, while only 94 ballot papers were spoilt.
The seat fell vacant following the death of William Esrom Alenyo who was involved in an accident in the neighboring Pakwach district on September 25th 2018.
Chrispin Kaheru the Coordinator CCEDU, applauded the losers for demonstrating political maturity throughout the electoral process and accepting defeat.
“Despite the low voter turn out recorded, the Nebbi District LCV By-election has enlisted responsible participation and attention from the electoral commission, the Uganda Police Force and sister agencies, as well as the people of Nebbi” Kaheru says.
CCEDU deployed electoral observers in all the 223 polling stations. The organization says polling materials were distributed to different stations on time but the voter turn out was very low.
