Ministry of health officials have confirmed a new Ebola case in Kasese district. The case is a 9 year old Congolese girl who travelled to Uganda with her mother to seek treatment.
A statement from the ministry released last night indicates that the nine girl entered the country through the Mpondwe border crossing in Bwera, Kasese on Wednesday August 28th.
The border screening team identified the victim after she presented with high fever, body weakness, rush and unexplained mouth bleeding. The girl is currently receiving treatment at the Bwera Ebola Treatment Unit.
According to the State Minister for health in-charge of Primary health care Dr. Joyce Moriku, all Ugandans need to cooperate with hygiene protocols.
"Cooperate with health workers, immigration and security officials to ensure effective screening at a entry points to stop the spread of Ebola to other parts of the country."
This becomes the fourth confirmed Ebola case in Kasese since the deadly disease was declared in DRC in August, 2018.
A few months back, three cases including two boys and their grandmother who had previously travelled to DRC to bury a relative were registered in Kasese.
