Uganda National Airlines is set to expand its route network to Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, Lusaka, and Harare among other cities.

The development was revealed by Mr. Cornwell Muleya the Acting CEO Uganda Airlines, while receiving two new CRJ 900 Aircraft from Bombardier at Entebbe International Airport this afternoon.

In his speech, Mr. Muleya told the State Minister for Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala who represented the president as chief guest, that the airline will expand its route to Kilimanjaro, Mombasa, Zanzibar, Khartoum, Kinshasa, Lumumbashi and Khartoum amongst others.

According to Mr. Muleya, the Airline’s hub strategy at Entebbe International Airport is steadily taking shape, one destination at a time. He also announced that the Airbus Aircraft will arrive in December 2020 and January 2021.

“At Uganda Airlines, whereas we have reached a major milestone today, we still have many rivers to cross. In December 2020 and January 2021, we will be receiving our two Airbus A330-800neo aircraft which will connect Uganda to overseas markets” he said.

The minister Gen. Katumba Wamala applauded Ugandans who have embraced the airline, but called upon those who are still negative, to draw inspiration from those using it and support the project.

Gen. Katumba said he was disappointed in some Ugandans who spread negative articles on social media and mainstream media. He called upon the entire country to get involved in the operations of Uganda Airlines at least as food suppliers.

The aircraft touched ground at 3:05pm and were greeted to a water cannon salute. They have been named after Kidepo and Kabalega National Parks.
The airline now has 4 aircraft plying regional routes.
