A dark cloud has covered Universe College Secondary School in Bujumbura Division Hoima Municipality after two senior four candidates were on Tuesday knocked dead by a speeding vehicle along the Hoima Kaiso Tonya road.
Police identifies the deceased as Bridget Tusaba 16 and Daphine Kabahumuza 17 both students of Universe College Secondary school, who were doing their UCE examination.
It is reported that a speeding vehicle Toyota Hilux Double Cabin registration number UBF 040W heading to Hoima town from Buseruka rammed into the students as they were heading home from school after writing exams.
The accident happened at around 5:00 pm a few meters from the school premises, when the vehicle first knocked Alfred Avuta, the school watchman who was riding a motorcycle registration number UDP 413Q near the school compound, before ramming into the students.
According to the Hoima District traffic boss Canicious Mugisha, the accident is blamed on over speeding and reckless driving. Police has since launched investigations into the incident.
The unidentified driver fled immediately after the accident.
