Allan Ggayi, a suspect in the theft of 160 phones from mobile money operators and telephone shops has walked free after being released by Police at the Lugoba Station, Kawempe.

The suspect and  his counterpart Ssozi, who evaded arrest were intercepted by police at Bujuuko along Kampala –Mityana highway driving a Toyota Allex registration number UBE 641A loaded with phones stolen from mobile money and telephone shops.

Upon being alerted by victims, Kawempe police traced the vehicle and sighted it past Bulenga township where they immediately informed counterparts at Bujuuko that intercepted the car, arrested Ggayi and impounded the vehicle containing 160 suspected stolen phones.

However, Ssozi escaped to a nearby garden and police have since been searching for him, in vain. According to Kampala Police Spokesperson Superintendent of Police –SP Patrick Onyango, Ggayi was released on police bond as the hunt for Ssozi continues.

In his statement, Ggayi said he is a motor vehicle mechanic in Kawempe who was approached by Ssozi to repair his car, and thereafter, Ssozi allegedly told him that the money was in Mityana.

Ssozi adds that since he had allegedly installed some new spare parts in Ggayi’s car, he reluctantly accepted to go with him to get his money, but was surprised when they were blocked by police on their way to Mityana.

Onyango says that basing on Ggayi’s explanation, police deemed it vital to release him on bond as they hunt for Ssozi.
