The police in Rukungiri have in custody five students of Makerere College of Business and Computer Studies Rukungiri campus following the death of a suspected thief.

Moses Nanoka, the Rukungiri District Police commander identufied the suspects as Elias Abaho, Owen Tumuramye, Andrew Nuwamanya, Benson Akatusasibwa and Goodman Jehoshaphat who were picked up on Sunday for allegedly masterminding the attack on 23-year-old Crescent Ahereza, a resident of Rwamunyinya village in Masya parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County in Rukungiri district on December 2, 2019.

According to Manila, Ahereza was caught red handed inside the male student’s hostel stealing clothes before being tortured by angry students together with his colleague, Kenneth Niwenyesiga and later  handed over to Rukungiri police station on December 3, 2019.

However, Ahereza later died at Rukungiri Health Centre IV where he had been rushed for treatment. Nanoka says the suspects were arrested after investigations showed that they led the attack on Ahereza.

The students are currently in custody at Rukungiri police station pending their appearance in court. They are faulted for not handing over Ahereza to relevant security officials for further management other than taking the law in their hands.

Police had also arrested  the college director, Rev. Ronald Natuhweera, who was later released  on police bond.
