The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese the Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira has applauded Ugandan leaders for being caring and loving to Ugandans during this lock down caused by CoronaVirus aka COVID19.
The Bishop was on Thursday delivering his 2020 Easter message at his in Namirembe on Holy Thursday, the beginning of Easter Tradum marking the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“I want to commend the leadership of this country for being so loving and caring for the people they lead. They tell us what we should do and what we shouldn’t do. This kind of guidance as we receive it every day, is a clear demonstration of love and care” Bishop Luwalira said.
He further called upon Ugandans to faithfully adhere to all preventive guidelines issued by the government to avoid the spread of coronavirus disease-COVID-19, as the world grapples with the pandemic. Uganda has currently confirmed 53 cases of COVID-19.
Bishop Luwalira also asked the security officers to stop torturing Ugandans. He thanked the President for continuing to guide them but also urged members of the public to stop provoking security teams.
He also drew inspiration from Paul’s first Epistle to the Corinthians Chapter 15: 55, pointing out that the whole world is surrounded by fear and that at such times, everybody needs the other to fight together in order to defeat the crisis.
As the world remembers the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ this Holy Week, Ugandans are still not allowed to gather for prayers and church leaders will carry out Mass and Services online and TV as has been the case since beginning of the lockdown.
The Roman Catholic Church in particular remembers Holy Thursday as the day Jesus showed humility by bowing to wash the feet of the 12 apostles and constituted the sacrament of Holy Communion. On such a day, priests wash feet of twelve Church members in remembrance.
