Ugandans have this afternoon taken to social media to show dissatisfaction with electricity distributors in the country, after power went off moments before the earlier scheduled Presidential address.
The Presidential Press Secretary Lindah Nabusayi informed the media that the national address had been pushed to 1pm. Moments later, power went off and her assistant, Don Wanyama would later acknowledge that State house was in the know of the nationwide shutdown.
Later, the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company limited UETCL took to twitter to explain the blackout.
“There is a floating island that is affecting generation at Nalubale and Bujagali and as a result we have a total national blackout. We are working with generation to sort the issues” UETCL twitted.
This was followed by Umeme who were receiving shots from angry Ugandans. “We are currently experiencing a National Outange and are working with UETCL and all stakeholders to have power restored at the earliest. All inconveniences caused are regretted” Umeme said in a tweet.
“UMEME should be charged with attempted murder,” one user tweeted. Another said “Ugandans thought Museveni held the highest power until the rise of Umeme.”
Many have jumped on the bandwagon and the company is currently trending at number one. While many are angry, others have turned the whole situation into fun.
The President is expected to address the nation about lifting or extending the lockdown that was announced 15 days ago due to Coronavirus outbreak. There is speculation, that the president will extend the lockdown for 21 more days, but we await confirmation.
