Police has deployment heavily around Kampala Capital City Mortuary where the body of German pedophile Bernhard Glaser Berry is being kept.
Glaser succumbed to cancer at Luzira prisons on Thursday morning, a day after being granted bail to seek treatment. Frank Baine the Uganda prisons spokesperson says he had been taken to Mulago Cancer Unit and was referred abroad for further treatment.
However, he was taken back to Luzira since the cancer institute had discharged him and there was no bed to keep him. On Wednesday, Court granted him bail, but he passed before it was processed.
This morning, dozens of uniformed and plain cloth security officers deployed strategically around the facility to screen anyone accessing the area at the roundabout near the mortuary while another check point was set at the entrance of the mortuary, which is unusual.
The Kampala Metropolitan Area Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, says they deployed heavily after receiving information that the deceased’s lawyers had plan to hold a press. According to Onyango, the mortuary is a place for medical workers to conduct postmortem, the bereaved family and Police Officers following up matters of questionable deaths but not a place for press briefings.
Evans Ochieng the deceased’s lawyer told journalists that preparations are underway to conduct postmortem and discuss how to dispose of the body through cremation.
He noted that prior to his death, Glaser who doesn’t have any relatives in Uganda willed that he should be cremated.
Glaser was a founder of Ssese Humanitarian Services, a community based organization on Mwena Landing Site in Kalangala District which he allegedly used to traffic children and defile others.
