The family of Cissy Namukasa will only receive compensation from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) when her body is found, the manager for health and safety, John Paul Sajjabi has revealed.

He says the institution is not sure at the moment that Namukasa died and allegations of her death may not be true.

On the morning of May 9th 2020, Namukasa a vendor at Bugolobi Market reportedly drowned in the Nakawa drainage channel during a heavy downpour and her body was washed away by fast running water, never to be seen again. 
Police called off the search after some days, but her family has since continued with hopes of finding her body and according her a proper burial.

During the search for the body conducted along Nakivubo channel, Kanyogoga Bridge, Namwongo parish in Kampala on Friday, Sajjabi indicated that the authority cannot rush to conclusions that Namukasa is dead until her body has been found.  

According to Sajjabi, compensation will be handled by the relevant authorities and the family of the deceased is already meeting with KCCA to discuss the issue.

The Drainage Technician at KCCA Peter Ochieng says the search has covered about 7 kilometers of the 9.5 kilometers of the Nakivubo channel but still no body.
