There is panic in Soroti after six members of the same family were quarantined at Soroti Nurses School after getting into contact with a COVID-19 positive patient.
The six people from Orwadai Ward, Eastern Division in Soroti Municipality voluntarily reported to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital on Tuesday after receiving information that the head of the family had tested positive to COVID-19 at Elegu Border over the weekend.
Dr Stephen Pande, the Coordinator of COVID-19 Surveillance team in Teso said the patient who tested positive on his return, has been operating cattle trade business in South Sudan.
The surveillance team will now trace for all the contacts of the patient, the suspects and other secondary contacts for quarantine.
On Tuesday alone, 22 Ugandan truck drivers crossed into South Sudan with a negative result, but tested positive upon return at Elegu entry point. The drivers had been in South Sudan for only 48 hours.
As of Tuesday 27th May 2020, South Sudan has 806 confirmed cases of COVID19, 8 deaths and 6 recoveries.
Last week, President Salva Kiir Mayardit was rushed to a Cairo hospital in Egypt for treatment of Coronavirus, while the Vice-President Riek Machar, who was part of a task force to fight coronavirus, was the first South Sudan top figure to test positive for the disease, at least four days before the President did.
