The police traffic department has warned it will arrest anyone who tries to drive past curfew time, despite having stickers that had been offered to essential workers.

Norman Musinga the commander traffic Kampala metropolitan area told the press on Wednesday, that stickers which were previously issued to essential workers are no longer in use, but people are advised to keep them for future purposes.

“Therefore, the traffic rules and regulations are applicable to motorist. We shall be enforcing traffic rules and regulations on all our checkpoints with emphasis on the offences like, driving without permits, careless and inconsiderate use of motor vehicle on the road, driving under influence of alcohol, over speeding, motor vehicles which are not in good mechanical condition, motor vehicles without insurance, and driving while not wearing seat belts” Musinga warned.

The warning comes on the second day of partial lifting of the lockdown by president Museveni, allowing motorist with Private vehicles back on the road.

Musinga says that all vehicles with un-cleared outstanding receipts will also be impounded at the checkpoints. He noted that on Tuesday they experienced traffic jam in most parts of Kampala Metropolitan area which was allegedly caused by excitement, indiscipline and delay in places of work, while other motorists had nothing to do but just wanted to get out and move around town, while others were rushing to beat curfew time.

He advised all motorists to observe the guidelines of the ministry of health and President Museveni, warning that delay in traffic should not be used as an excuse for being caught up in curfew time.

“Motorists should therefore plan for their journeys well, to avoid inconveniences. We shall impound all motor vehicles found driving beyond curfew time and action will be taken against drivers” Musinga said.
