Residents of Pallisa are mourning the demise of their district woman Member of Parliament, Hon Faith Alupo who passed on Tuesday at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Alupo was pregnant at the time of her death and had history of hypertension, according to Parliament. While there are reports that the MP succumbed to COVID-19, parliament says they are still awaiting a postmortem report from Mulago.

Alupo joined Parliament in 2018 when the seat fell vacant after the former Woman MP, Agnes Ameede, shifted to the then newly-created Butebo district in the same position.

Alupo, a candidate on the NRM ticket went to the house unopposed after the electoral commission disqualified her rival Achola Catherine Osupelem, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, for using nomination names that did not tally with those on her academic qualification.

Alupo had lost in the recently concluded NRM party primaries to Kevin Kaala Ojinga. It is still unclear, what caused her sudden death, as those close to her, say she was not ill.
