The Police Marine Unit has been dispatched a team to retrieve bodies of two fishermen from Bugiri district who drowned in Lake Kimira.
The deceased have been identified as; David Makkatu and David Mulambi, both residents of Buluguyi trading center in Buluguyi sub-county in Bugiri district.
They reportedly drowned on Sunday night while fishing.
According to James Mubi the Busoga East Region Police spokesperson, a team from the Police Marine Unit has been dispatched to retrieve the deceased’s bodies and hand them over to their relatives for burial.
Marijan Azalwa the Bugiri District LC V Chairperson says most fishermen lack funds to purchase acceptable fishing gears, which has led to an increase in accidents on Lake Kimira.
He added that despite the fact that most accident victims are rescued by their colleagues, most of them lack life jackets and the recommended boats, which can keep them afloat even during heavy storms.
Many fishermen continue to lose lives due to lack of life jackets and better fishing boats. Last week, another two fishermen drowned in L. Albert while fishing at night.
